Details: This bookmark publicises the ‘Chestest’, a National Health Service screening programme. The bookmark is undated but looks c.1950s.

Mass miniature radiography equipment was housed in vans. These mobile units made it possible to bring X-ray machines into local communities to identify diseases like tuberculosis (TB). Similar screening campaigns ran from the 1940s to the 1960s. The aim was for early detection to facilitate easy referrals and targeted treatment.

The artwork is uncredited.
