Details: This 1960 Christmas recipe leaflet was published by McDougall's. The artwork is signed 'Amstutz', which is British illustrator André Amstutz (b. 1925).

André Amstutz was born in Brighton and studied at the Brighton School of Art in the early years of the Second World War. He initially became an animator for Gaumont British (GB) Animation, before going on to art directing, poster designing and illustrating children’s books.

During the 1950s he was an art director for leading advertising agencies such as the London Press Exchange and Colman, Prentice & Varley. He also designed posters and illustrations as a freelance illustrator. Amongst his clients were Shell, British Railways, BEA, the British Travel Authority and the General Post Office.

From the 1960s onwards he was highly successful children's book illustrator. He illustrated many books written by Allan Ahlberg, including the 'Happy Families' and 'Funnybones' series. He was also a member of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers.

Amstutz went on to become a lecturer, including at the Leicester College of Art and Design and Ipswich School of Art.
