Details: This is a 1972 lottery ticket for the Takarakuji lottery of Kinki-Japan.

Takarakuji (宝くじ) translates to mean ‘fortune lottery’ or ‘treasure lottery’. The Takarakuji lottery dates back to 1945, when the Japanese government established a state lottery. The prizes included cash, valuable items, houses and cars.

The artwork is uncredited but this illustration bears a striking resemblance to the cover of ‘The Happy Owls’, a 1963 children’s book by Swiss graphic artist Celestino Piatti.
