Adams was a designer at S. H. Benson Ltd throughout the 1950s. S. H. Benson was a British advertising agency founded in 1893 and bought in 1971 by Ogilvy and Mather.

Adams mostly worked with artwork created by other artists for clients such as BP and Shell, before creating illustrations for the Woodbine campaign.
