Details: This c.1967 matchbook was produced by SNCF to publicise their ‘trains autos couchettes’ service. The artwork was created by French artist Guy Georget (1911-1992).

Georget was born in Paris and studied at l'Ecole des Arts Appliqués à l'Industrie and L'École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. He worked with an advertising agency between 1930 and 1939. He started his own studio in 1940, as well as teaching in one of his former schools.

Georget was known for his poster art, creating many designs for Air France in particular. Georget also designed the logo for La Poste, the French national postal service.
