Details: This illustration advertising Exide batteries was used as the cover for an issue of Motor Cycling magazine in 1961. The artwork is by Polish-born artist Jerzy Dunin-Brzezinski (1924-2006), better known as “Karo”.

He settled in the UK after World War II, during which he volunteered for the Polish Army after being deported to Germany and making his way to Paris. After studying at London’s Borough Polytechnic, he became a successful graphic artist, creating artwork for posters, books and stamps.

From 1963 he joined Leicester Polytechnic, where he was Head of the School of Graphic Design for 22 years. He returned to Poland in 1985, where he continued to paint and organise art competitions.
