Huveneers was born in Utrecht in the Netherlands. He was 15 years old when the German army invaded and occupied the country. He escaped capture and spent two years in hiding, finding shelter with kind farmers.

Studying design at Arnhem Academy because of its 'wide application', Huveneers graduated in 1945 and undertaking corporate identity projects. Six years later, a selection of his posters were exhibited at the 1951 Festival of Britain. They caught the attention of Commander Edward Whitehead from Schweppes, who invited Huveneers to produce work for the company. Huveneers arrived in London in 1952 and stayed for almost 15 years. He produced posters and designs for clients including British Railways, GPO, BOAC, ICI, Pepsi Cola and Philips.

After a brief time back in the Netherlands working for Philips, Huveneers moved to Sydney, Australia in 1968. He started his own corporate identity practice and undertook projects for over 70 major Australian companies including logos for Australia Post, Telecom Australia, and Westpac Bank.

Huveneers turned to consulting in the 1990s, eventually closing his successful studio to retire and settle in Tasmania.
